When was the troop founded?

The troop was founded in 1965 and in the spring of 2015 celebrated it's 50th anniversary with a special 50th Anniversary celebration and camp out (see cover photo on web site).

Do you need to be a member of White Plains United Methodist Church to join the troop?

No. In fact you need not be Methodist, or even Christian to join Troop 210.  Boy Scouts requires that all members believe is a higher power ("A scout is reverent") and all faiths are welcome.  Troop 210 has been blessed by a diversity of beliefs among its members. Over the years the troop has including Protestants, Catholics, Jews, Muslims, and Buddhists.

How many Eagle Scouts have been in Troop 210?

Approximately 160+ as of the January 2016. 

What is the troop's philosophy towards rank advancement?

We believe in giving every young man the opportunity to advance at their own pace as far on the trail to Eagle as they desire. Our program of meetings and outdoor activities is structured to insure this goal is met. We are not an "Eagle factory". If a scout has no interest in rank advancement but just loves to camp, that is fine too. 

What are the dues?

$50 per year, payable in March, prorated every six months if you join part way through the year.  This includes $24/yr which for membership in Boy Scouts of America paid to the national office.  The troop accepts cash or checks (payable to Troop 210) BSA publishes a monthly magazine for scouts, Boys' Life, which is available for an additional $12/yr.

How often do we meet?

Most Monday nights at 7:00pm until 8:00pm (we make every effort to end promptly at 8:00) 

Who runs the meetings?

Scouts do!!! Starting with the Senior Patrol Leader and his Assistants, they plan and carry out the meeting activities. 

Where do I go to buy scout supplies?

You can buy uniform and BSA merchandise at the Occoneechee Council Scout Shop, 3231 Atlantic Avenue, Raleigh 27604 (919) 850-0301 Map It!.

If you are unable to get the Scout Shop, you can mail order through the Boy Scout catalog and ScoutStuff.org

Lightly used uniforms are often available at second hand clothing and thrift stores, and if a scout uniform will not fit in your budget, please contact
our scoutmaster for access to donated items. 

Is there any type of newsletter and schedule of events?

Yes, this is published monthly and emailed to scouts & parents. (Parents, please make sure you provide your email address when you register your scout.) 

What is the uniform policy?

A Boy Scout Uniform is required at all meetings and is to be worn when in public on troop activities, including while driving to and from camp outs.

Class A uniform consists of the following:

  • Boy Scout shirt
  • Boy Scout pants or shorts and belt (nice blue jeans or dark cargo pants can be substituted)
  • Boy Scout neckerchief or bolo tie
  • Boy Scout hat (optional)
  • Boy Scout socks (only required for monthly inspections)
  • Merit Badge sash (only required for monthly inspections)

"Class B" uniforms consists of the following:

  • Troop 210 or other scout related T-shirt
  • Dark pants or shorts

To be worn during summer months and also on all camp outs. The Senior Patrol Leader and Patrol Leader Council in the troop designate which uniform is appropriate for which event. If you have a question, check with your patrol leader or senior patrol leader. 

What does the troop supply?

Your dues and fundraising efforts pay for the following: Your Boy Scout Handbook and neckerchief, use of a troop tent, your patrol supplies, your troop supplies, merit badge pamphlets, etc 

What camping equipment do I need?

All scouts will need a sleeping bag, sleeping pad, rain gear, mess kit, and water bottle.  See the troop packing list for more details.

What should I focus on my first year?

Attaining First Class should be your primary goal. This requires focusing on the requirements listed in your handbook. You will notice that no merit badges are required. So please focus on the everything else. The troop has Assistant Scoutmasters and Troop Guides who are focused on helping you achieve your First Class rank ------- don't hesitate to get help from them! 

What is the troop committee?

Every parent is a member of the troop committee, which typically meets once a month at the church at 7pm, durring the troop meeting. Troop 210 has a very active troop committee and the parents need to be involved for that success to continue. 

What can a parent do to assist?

A whole page could be devoted to this!!! Everything from driving scouts to camp outs, to helping with merit badge classes, serving on boards of review committee's, planning out of town camp outs, assisting with fundraisers, to being a scout leader yourself!!! Please let the scoutmaster and troop committee chairman know what interests you, so we can call upon you when necessary.
