Basic Camp Out Packing List
Below is a basic troop camp out packing list. Some trips may require additional items and the Senior Patrol Leader and/or Camp Master will make those items known for each camp out.
What to Bring (Required)
- Class A Scout Uniform
- Hiking Boots & appropriate socks
- Scout Handbook
- Pocket Knife (only with Totin' Chip)
- Personal First Aid Kit
- Extra Clothing (dress appropriately for weather)
- Tennis shoes or other backup footware in case boots get wet
- Rain Gear
- Water Bottle
- Flashlight (with extra batteries)
- Sun Screen
- Hat with brim
- Insect repellent (no aerosol cans please)
- Compass
- Backpack or duffel bag
- Sleeping Bag
- Sleeping Pad
- Eating kit (spoon, plate, bowl, cup)
- Personal Hygiene Supplies (toothbrush, toothpaste, DEODORANT, floss, comb, washcloth, towel)
What to Bring (Optional)
- Watch
- Camera and film (preferably inexpensive digital or disposable variety)
- Notebook
- Pencil or Pen
- Sunglasses
- Small musical instrument
- Backpack Frisbee
- Hacky Sack
- Swimsuit (only on trips that involve water)
- Work Gloves
- Playing Cards
- Fishing gear (if applicable - check with SPL first)
- Walking Stick
What NOT to Bring
- Electronic devices (iPods, MP3 players, cell phones, video games, etc.)
- Snacks (Patrols should plan to bring snacks if needed)
- Sodas or sugary drinks
- Candy
- Flammable Liquids

Cold Weather
Packing List
CLOTHING
- Class A Uniform shirt – must on you when you arrive at the church (no neckerchiefs or slides)
- Pre-pack clothes as wearing units in Zip-Lock bags.
- Mittens or gloves (extra pair is a good idea if it snows or rains)
- Warm coat in case it gets very cold
- Synthetic long johns tops and bottoms (NO COTTON)
- 4 pair heavy hiking socks (wool or synthetic)
- Wool sweater or fleece jacket/hoody
- Rain jacket and rain pants
- 2 Wool pants or breathable/fleece pants over the long johns.
Jeans are not the best in cold weather as they are cotton, but with long johns under they are OK - 2 wool or fleece hats (one for daytime, one for sleeping)
- 2 long sleeved shirts (wool are best, flannel are OK with long johns under)
- 2 t-shirts (wicking Tees are best, avoid cotton)
- 3 pairs of underwear
- High quality waterproof hiking boots
- Backup pair of shoes (no Crocs or flip flops)
SLEEPING
- Insulating sleeping pad
- Sleeping bag rated to 20°
or Sleeping bag and liner or two lighter weigh bags or light weigh bag and blanket - Sleeping clothes (never sleep in the clothes you have warn or will wear the next day)
Shorts and t-shirt or long johns - Wool or fleece hat or balaclava
- hiking socks
PERSONAL GEAR
- Duffle bag or backpack
- Toiletry bag (toothbrush, tooth paste, deodorant, etc.)
- Mess kit (plate, bowl, knife, fork, spoon)
- Cup or travel mug (hard to drink hot chocolate out of a bowl)
- Head lamp or flashlight
- Water Bottle
- Pocket Knife & Totem Chit
- Scout Handbook for those not yet First Class
OPTIONAL & ADDITIONAL COMFORT ITEMS
- Daypack to put clothing layers in as it warms up and to carry your water bottle
- Compass
- Hand warmers (can be used in pockets or mittens for hands and placed in
boots while getting dressed in the morning to pre-warm) - Seat cushion like the ones used at football games to insulate your butt while sitting on cold benches
